This must be one of the top days in Australian racing with the best three
year olds competing in the turf classic the Caulfield Guineas. Add to this many of the
best WFA horses fighting it out in the Yalumba (Caulfield) Stakes, a top sprint event in
the Schillaci Stakes and the important Cups' lead-up race in the Winning Edge Presentation
Stakes. Then there is the classic "mile" the Toorak Handicap as old as the
Guineas - this year being the 121st running.
Northerly continued on his winning way and Show A Heart finally broke through for a well deserved win in the Toorak but it was the Octagonal colt Lonhro who scored such a commanding victory in the Guineas that people were making comparisons with his famous father.
