The two-year-olds
were out to impress in the Blue Diamond Preludes and to stake their claim on the feature
event to be contested in two weeks time. The weather was inclement early on with the colts
and geldings division run in squalling rain. The track was cutting up but despite
appearing uncomfortable in the going, Bel Esprit was again an impressive winner. He played
up at the start but was too good for his rivals showing great speed before being eased
down by Wayne Treloar. The fillies' division was without pre-race favourite Innovation
Girl who was showing an elevated temperature. That race was taken out by the smart filly
Brief Embrace who showed she is not to be underestimated. The weather cleared to a
glorious afternoon providing great conditions for the remaining races.
