In an already small field the contest was further diminished by the late withdrawal of the well fancied Paternal at the barrier by order of the stewards. The race was no cake walk for the favourite Slipstream though, who was trapped wide early and had to settle at the back. He moved up at the 600 and then burst clear down the centre of the track in the straight to win easily. A good ride by an in-form young jockey in Vincent Hall, the first of a winning double.
