YELL RETURNS A WINNER Yell, the champion sprinter of the 2002/2003 season, resumed with a stirring win in the Listed Rosemount Estate McEwen Trophy at Moonee Valley. He was up against a smart field of sprinters including last start winners Dantana and Super Elegant. He was yet to win over the 1000m but his class prevailed in the final stages as he flew down the centre of the track to grab the smart mare The Big Chill (second) with Dantana holding on for third. Earlier in the day the winners of the jockey's and trainer's premierships for 2002/3 were presented with their trophies. Tony McEvoy won his first Melbourne training premiership to continue the fine Lindsay Park tradition. His nephew Kerrin McEvoy won his first Melbourne jockey premiership despite spending several weeks in Dubai riding for Godolphin. The award for the premier jumps jockey went to Craig Durden and Tony Rosolini won the premiership for training jumpers thanks to his outstanding hurdler Specular. |
