EXCEED AND EXCEL DOES JUST THAT!

The weather was threatening early at Caulfield but the clouds cleared away for a beautiful sunny afternoon at 'The Heath'. The racing was excellent with the first of the features the Group 1 Dubai Racing Club Cup run over the 1400m. The three-year-old colts were expected to do well and the Sydneysider Exceed And Excel proved far too good for his rivals. The smart mare Reactive came in second and the consistent Titanic Jack ran on well for third.

In the second feature event we saw the weight-for-age horses battle it out in the Group 1 Emirates Airline Underwood Stakes. The Lee Freedman trained gelding Mummify was very impressive in winning from the fast finishing Grey Song with the classy mare Ain't Seen Nothin' battling on well for third. He is now the outright favourite for the Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup.

Earlier in the day the three-year-old fillies contested the Group 3 Jumeirah International Stakes with the Danzero filly Hinting putting in a superb performance to fly home from the rear of the field to win at the generous odds of 20/1.

The three-year-old colts and geldings stepped out in the Carlton Draught Guineas Prelude (Group 3) which is obviously a stepping stone to the classic Carlton Draught Caulfield Guineas to be held on October 11. The lightly raced Danehill colt Elvstroem won as he liked and appears to be a great prospect for collecting more Spring riches.
