It was a hot and humid day at Caulfield for the running of the premier race for two-year-olds in Victoria the AAMI Blue Diamond Stakes and the time honoured sprint the Oakleigh Plate. Earlier in the day in muggy overcast conditions we saw the champion Northerly prove too strong again for his arch rival Fields of Omagh in the St. George Stakes before the sun broke through for the Group 1 events. A very even field of two-year-olds were sent out to contest the 1200m dash. The Flying Spur filly Roedean proved far too good winning comfortably, unleashing a powerful run down the middle of the track to score from the Sydney gelding Kusi and stablemate Halibery. Later in the day the little mare River Dove proved too slick for a hot field in the Oakleigh Plate.
