SUPER ELEGANT WINS WELL It was an overcast day at Caulfield for the running of the Group 2 J.J. Liston Stakes with a quality field of sprinters gathered for an enthralling contest. There was considerable interest in the event with many Spring hopefuls resuming including Mummify, Bush Padre, Natural Blitz, Hydrometer and Helenus. The race fit sprinters proved too good perhaps aided by a much talked about on-pace track bias. Greg Childs controlled the race by leading all the way on Super Elegant who was briefly challenged in the straight by the smart mare Vocabulary but pulled away to win well.
Earlier in the day we saw the Listed RSL Vain Stakes for three-year-old colts and geldings and the Listed Vietnam Veterans Quezette Stakes for three-year-old fillies. The colts and geldings provided an exciting dead heat before a successful protest by Greg Childs on Happy Strike resulting in his mount being awarded the race. The third horse Keep The Faith has big wraps on him and ran well but was unsuited by the racing pattern on the day. Mick Price continued his success with the fillies winning the Quezette with French Bid and also training the third placegetter Roedean. |
