It was yet another beautiful autumn day at Flemington for the running of the time honoured Group 3 VRC St. Leger for three-year-olds. This race has an honour roll of champions that includes Phar Lap and Tulloch. The big gelding Sir Pentire finally found his race after contesting the big races in the Spring and chasing home the likes of Helenus. In a great finish he burst from the pack to score a gutsy win after being held up for a run halfway down the straight.
