It was a fine but windy afternoon at the Valley for the running of the Noel Mason Steeplechase. The champion 'chaser St. Steven was expected to romp in but was disappointing and seems to be a tired horse. The up-and-comer Le Thief was very impressive winning eased down by Adrian Garraway who had the luxury of a long look over his shoulder halfway down the straight. Later in the day Kerrin McEvoy rode a double to put himself in a great position to win this season's jockey's premiership. The last race saw apprentice Nicholas Ryan ride his first city winner aboard the filly Royal Sash.
