After a very wet couple of days the wintry Melbourne weather cleared for the running of the Hiskens Steeplechase at Moonee Valley. The track was rain affected which obviously suited the Tassie jumper Misty Weather. He bolted in by a record 25 lengths, many say it was even more, to give his trainer Michael Trinder his fourth winner in the race from as many attempts. It was a family affair with his son Adam riding a heady race taking the initiative and leading all the way. They therefore managed to stay clear of the trouble caused to others by Crafty Dancer who fell early in the race but was thankfully unhurt. The lightly-built gelding will be set for the Grand National at Flemington next year and possibly the big jumps race in Japan.
