Summer finally arrived in Melbourne with the temperature almost hitting 30 C providing a pleasant afternoon to view the races out at Sandown. The track was in excellent order but there seemed to be a slight leaders' bias with no winner coming from back in the field. The main event saw Chattanooga sent out favourite but the big weight of 61kg and the warm conditions seem to take their toll. The Grant Dalziel-trained entire Tears Royal had the run of the race thanks to Brett Prebble and proved too good for his rivals. He will now most likely contest the Manifold Stakes in a couple of weeks. Another impressive winner was Karla Keys who won the first race and will head for the Moonee Valley Oaks in late March. |
