Newmarket Day On an overcast day on a good track with the rail in the true position the sprinters gathered to contest the Newmarket Handicap. This time honoured event is always a highlight of the Autumn carnival in Melbourne and it promised to be a great spectacle with an excellent field assembled to contest the 1200 metre cavalry charge down the Flemington straight. The day turned out to be the Damien Oliver show.
