The race had good pace set by Knockroe which gave everyone a chance and he got out to a 4 length lead down the side before the field reeled him in on the turn. Northerly settled midfield but was trapped wide all the way before he burst clear at the top of the straight to win like only a class horse does. Oval Office ran on well for second after settling last and Knockroe battled on well to take third after setting the early pace. The time was a new track record of 1:35.10 taking a full tenth of a second of the old mark set by Sober Suit and Oppressor. This horse is obviously a great performer and is heading for the Australian Cup at Flemington.
