For the second time this weekend Darren Gauci took the initiative in a big race and it again paid dividends. He took Desert Sky to the front and led all the way to win in what ended up a very close photo finish over the dogged Skoozi Please. Without taking anything away from the winner there may have been excuses for some of the beaten horses. Many horses ran on well including 2000 VRC Derby winner Hit The Roof(third) and 2000 Caulfield Cup winner Diatribe(fourth) as well as Cent Home and Nina Haraka. The three year olds Fubu and Scenic Warrior ran well with the latter having little luck obtaining a run at the home turn.
