The weather was fine and sunny and the racing promised to be exciting at Caulfield with the two divisions of the Blue Diamond Preludes and the Group 1 classic C.F.Orr Stakes being run. The juvenile races appeared even and the Orr Stakes looked interesting with the older horses taking on a very strong three year old contingent. The three year olds have a great record in this event over the past three years but you have to go back to the great Manikato in 1979 to find another three year old winner. Of course the three year olds of 1980 and 1981 had to contend with Manikato as he took this race three years in a row!
