There was a late
scratching in this event due to an irregularity in the pre-race blood test of Mr. Magoo
who was well fancied to win. The pace was on from the start with Marstic leading from Star
Hit. As they turned for home Marstic and Super Elegant kicked clear and looked to have the
race between them, but Kennett had come around the field to give chase. He grabbed Marstic
in the last bit to win by just a long head with El Nino also running on well for third.
