On a hot and steamy night, about
17,000 racegoers tried to cool off and back a few winners at Moonee Valley racecourse
while keeping an eye on Pat Rafter's progress in the Australian Open on the big screen.
The mare Miss Pennymoney was back to defend her title in the Sunicrust Australia Stakes.
There was a lot of interest in the big race with the return of Nina Haraka from a long
spell, and the speedy filly So Gorgeous and the promising colt Scenic Warrior starting
their Autumn campaigns after successful Spring carnivals. There was also the smart New
Zealander Cent Home having his first start in Australia since the Spring of 1999 having
made a great comeback to racing at home. |
