The opening event saw the
connections of 1997 Australia Stakes winner Spartacus in the winner's circle after a great
ride by apprentice James Winks resulted in Galatea going the shortest way home along the
rails. The Green Line Express filly won easily at the good odds of $11 for a win having
returned to a fillies race after failing against the colts and geldings at Sandown.
