We saw many
spring hopefuls return to begin their preparations, but the track at Sandown was slow and
there was a gale force wind making for tricky conditions. The horses drawn on the inside
who were able to get cover from the northerly on the backstraight were at a distinct
advantage from those racing wide. Three great rides from Damien Oliver to do just that
from inside barriers gave him victories in the three main races of the day, most notably
on the grey Le Zagaletta in the Group 2 Liston Stakes.
