In a true contest
the grey Le Zagaletta was given the run of the race by Damien Oliver sitting just behind
the leaders until they turned for home. He was asked for his effort and responded to hard
riding taking the lead and then holding off a determined Inaflury who looked a chance on
the inside but weakened in the last bit. The consistent Umrum held on well for third with
the luckless Aka Bilk looking for a clear passage back in fourth. Those to run on well
from the rear included the stayers Native Jazz and Sky Heights.
