Despite the threatening clouds hanging over Flemington a good crowd came
along to see the champ Sunline and another challenger, this time Universal Prince, battle
it out in the Group 2 Turnbull Stakes. In another time-honoured event, the Group 2 Edward
Manifold Stakes, we saw many of the best three-year-old fillies competing. As if that
wasn't enough we had many Cups' horses out to prove a point and two Group 3 sprint events
to be contested, which added up to a great day at the track. Sunline stole the show with
an amazing all-the-way win in the Turnbull Stakes but Universal Prince put in an excellent
Melbourne Cup trial.
