Sunline jumped to the lead and for the first time this campaign was
allowed to lead as she liked. She went away to a big lead but everyone wondered could she
keep it going up the long Flemington straight? As she approached the turn the rest of the
field had almost caught her but she put on a burst and it was soon obvious they would not
get near her. Then Universal Prince came charging down the middle of the track but never
looked like winning getting within a length of Sunline but she was eased down on the line.
The mare Primrose Sands' performance was full of merit as she was forced to reel in
Sunline and managed to hang on to run third. She has now firmed dramatically in both the
Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. Sunline seems on target to score a historic third Cox Plate
in three weeks time.
