This race broke the drought (pardon the pun!) for Gai Waterhouse in
Melbourne with the mare Primrose Sands dead-heating with Rain Gauge for first prize. The
mare did it tough out in front and fought back well when challenged by the George Hanlon
trained horse in the last part of the race. Bello Signor battled on well for third.
