This race is run
over the course and distance of the Melbourne Cup, the only other such race contested at
Flemington. It is therefore always a tricky affair to predict as the staying ability of
the contestants at 3200m is often unknown. The well performed mare Voile D'or took up her
customary role in front and led into the straight but failed to stay. Green Raider and
Full of Rhythm put in their claims but Starpro went past them at the 200m and ran out the
distance well to win from the Tasmanian horse Naucho who had been last turning for home.
The third horse home was Zabuan who won this race in 1999.
