With good early pace the favourite Intelligent Star settled third behind the leaders to have the run of the race. He found himself in the lead at the top of the straight but was swamped by the backmarkers Confederate Kid and Orchestrated. They fought out the finish with the winner Confederate Kid not wanting to go straight and hanging in on the second horse despite jockey Peter Mertens showing his versatility by using the whip in his left hand. There were no grounds for an objection however.
