| The track was
rated slow at Moonee Valley after the rains finally came to Melbourne after a very long
dry spell. It was an overcast day but with a north wind not at all cold. The feature event
was the Lone Star (Moonee Valley) Oaks which is run over the W.S.Cox Plate course of 2040m
and has been won by some of the best fillies in Australasia over the past few years
including the horse of the moment Sunline in 1999. The NZ filly St. Therese was attempting
to continue the dominance of the Kiwis but the Sydney filly Dandify was out to defend the
locals' honour.
