Calming jumped to the front and led with Oamaru Force sitting on her girth for the early part of the race. As they entered the straight Calming skipped away and as Brett Prebble drew the whip on Oamaru Force she shifted in and had to be eased off the heels of the leader. It took her a long time to get going again and Calming looked set to win but Oamaru Force lifted to score by a neck. Operettas came in third.
