A new star was
born in this event with the Kiwi colt Pure Theatre putting in a withering burst over the
last 100m to win easily against a classy field of colts and geldings. His is one of the
few horses by the famous stallion Nureyev racing in this part of the world. A bright
future is certain on the racetrack and then later at stud. The hot favourite North Boy
(third) led the field early and looked to be going well but had no answer when challenged
in the straight by King of Prussia (second). These two looked certain to fight out the
finish before Pure Theatre sprouted wings in the latter stages.
