The winner of
this race is usually a champion or at least a top line performer and this year was no
exception. Northerly will prove to us over the next month or so just how good he is with
many predicting champion status will be bestowed upon him. He never looked comfortable
when laying in on the horse inside him in the home straight but his courage and heart
ensured his victory. His performance was excellent but not far behind him were the fast
finishing Universal Prince (second) and the Kiwi Kaapstad Way (third) who both put in
fantastic trials for the Melbourne Cup.
